Lasvit at Design Shanghai 2026: Splash is crowned a Lasvit Icon

Following the success of Splash, one of Lasvit’s most recognized designs, Splash Mirror introduces the same expressive language of water in a new form. Unveiled at Design Miami 2025, the mirror reimagines Splash as a sculptural reflective installation and was selected by Wallpaper magazine among the 20 must see works of the fair.

At Design Shanghai 2026, Lasvit presented its Icon Splash by Martin Gallo for the first time in the city. Suspended above the champagne bar at the Shanghai Exhibition Centre, the fused glass installation created a moment of pause within the movement of the fair.

Inspired by water, Splash captures a state where stillness and motion coexist – where glass, like water, holds both energy and calm at once.

What did Lasvit present at Design Shanghai 2026?

At Design Shanghai 2026, Lasvit introduced Splash as part of its Icon collection – designs that were originally created as bespoke installations and, for being loved around the world, have become staple pieces of Lasvit.

This newly crowned Lasvit Icon transforms the fleeting movement of water into fused glass, capturing a single moment suspended in time. Fluid, luminous, and ever-changing, the installation reflects the emotional and physical qualities of water through light and glass.

Crafted at Lasvit Fusing in the heart of Czech glassmaking, Splash was designed to evoke a spectrum of moods – from the serenity of a calm pond and the joy of children splashing in puddles to the power of a raging river.

At the fair, Splash was presented as a sculptural centrepiece above the champagne bar, where the fused glass installation formed a moment of pause within the movement of the fair. Water, like glass, holds both stillness and energy at once.

What is the inspiration behind Splash?

"Water is never still; it carries emotions, memories, and movement. With Splash, I wanted to capture its fleeting moments – how a single drop can ripple into something vast, how light dances on the surface, and how water, like glass, holds both stillness and energy within it,” explains designer Martin Gallo.

Through Splash, Gallo translates the natural behaviour of water into glass, allowing light and form to express both its calm and its force.

How does Splash connect to the theme of Design Shanghai 2026?

The theme of Design Shanghai 2026 explores nature as an equal partner to design – not only as inspiration, but as a force that shapes how we create and live.

Splash follows this idea by working directly with the principles that shape both glass and the natural world: heat, pressure, gravity, and breath. Just as water flows and transforms, glass is formed through similar forces, making the installation a reflection of nature’s processes.

In this context, Splash becomes more than an object; it represents alignment between design and nature, where material and inspiration are inseparable.
